SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON CONFIRMATION OF HILLARY CLINTON AS SECRETARY OF STATE

Shaheen supported Clinton's nomination and participated in her confirmation process as an incoming member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations

(Washington, D.C.) – Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today upon the confirmation of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State:

“I was proud today to support my good friend Hillary Clinton as our Secretary of State. As she showed at our hearing with the Foreign Relations Committee and throughout her confirmation process, Hillary Clinton has the experience, wisdom and thorough understanding of foreign affairs necessary to make an excellent Secretary of State. I applaud President Obama for making a superb choice, and I look forward to working closely with him, Secretary Clinton, and my colleagues in the Senate to confront the many international challenges we now face.

“There is much work to be done. We must begin the long effort to repair our national standing abroad, we must strengthen our international alliances to keep our nation secure, and we must start leading the way on the global threat of climate change. The problems we face were created over many years, and they won’t be solved in a day, but I’m confident that with the leadership of President Obama and Secretary Clinton, we will overcome these challenges.”
