SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON CONFIRMATION OF SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the confirmation of Senator John Kerry as the next U.S. Secretary of State. The Senate voted to confirm Kerry’s nomination in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 94-3.
“I have known Secretary Kerry for many years and have had the opportunity to see firsthand the exceptional leadership he has provided for the United States. During our time in the Senate and together serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I have been consistently impressed by his skills in diplomacy and service to our nation. Given his international credentials and years of exemplary service, I am confident that he will continue that leadership at the State Department. I am happy to have supported his nomination and while I will miss the presence of such a great friend here in the Senate, I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as Secretary of State.”
