Shaheen Statement on Confirmation of UNH Grad, General Lori Robinson, to Lead U.S. Northern Command

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement on the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of U.S. Air Force General Lori Robinson to serve as the commander of U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).
“I want to congratulate General Robinson on her historic confirmation as the first woman to lead a combatant command.” said Shaheen. “Having met with General Robinson and reviewed her exceptional qualifications, I am confident in her ability to lead USNORTHCOM. Our country faces serious national security challenges and General Robinson has the dedication and experience to be successful in this position. General Robinson is truly a trailblazer and New Hampshire is especially proud of her today.”
General Robinson is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and a former resident of Bartlett, New Hampshire. She has been confirmed to serve as the commander of U.S. Northern Command, which oversees national security operations including the defense of U.S. air, land and sea. General Robinson is the first woman to head a combatant command. She was previously the commander of Pacific Air Forces, which oversees the Air Force activities of more than 46,000 airmen. She entered the Air Force through the ROTC program at the University of New Hampshire in 1982.
