Shaheen Statement on Dr. David Shulkin, Nominee to Lead Veterans Affairs

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement on her support for Dr. David Shulkin, President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senate is expected to vote on Dr. Shulkin’s confirmation tonight.

“After reviewing his record, I intend to support Dr. Shulkin’s nomination,” said Senator Shaheen. “Dr. Shulkin has a broad range of experience at the VA and running hospitals around the country. If approved, he has a daunting task before him. Too many veterans in New Hampshire and around the country are struggling to get access to care in a timely manner, which is why I’m committed to working with him and across the aisle in the Senate to reduce waitlist backlogs and improve care. In New Hampshire, the Choice Card program needs to be streamlined to improve access and reimbursements, and I hope these urgent improvements can be accelerated under Dr. Shulkin’s leadership.”
