SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON GEORGIAN ELECTIONS

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement on the Georgian Presidential election:

“As a deep and abiding friend of the Georgian people, I want to congratulate them on their recent peaceful presidential election.  This election, which the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) found was ‘efficiently administered, transparent, and took place in an amicable and constructive environment,’ represents another milestone in the country’s democratic development and efforts to further solidify its place in the West.  I encourage Georgia’s political leaders, including all parties and the candidates of the October 27 presidential election, to focus their full attention on securing a better future for Georgian citizens by constructively working together to promote Georgia’s political stability, strengthen its civil society and advance its democratic and economic development.  The United States stands ready to help Georgia in this effort, and I look forward to continuing to monitor Georgia’s progress in the weeks and months ahead.”
