Shaheen Statement on Latest Sexual Assault Allegation Against SCOTUS Nominee Brett Kavanaugh

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to the latest allegation of sexual assault against U.S. Supreme Court Nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh:

“These allegations underscore why it’s imperative that there be an FBI investigation as has been done in the past when accusations have been brought against a Supreme Court nominee,” said Shaheen. “It is egregious that President Trump and Republican leadership have resisted an FBI investigation that would help gather evidence to get to the bottom of these criminal allegations. Voting on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination now without further investigation would violate the Senate’s constitutional responsibility to vet Supreme Court nominees. It would also send a horrible message to survivors of sexual assault that if they come forward they will be discounted, demeaned and ignored. Sadly, the allegations brought forward today reflect the experiences of far too many women.”
