SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON MEETING WITH VA TO DISCUSS VETERANS BENEFIT BACKLOG

(Washington, DC) - Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement this afternoon after meeting with Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, and other members of the Senate to discuss efforts to eliminate the VA claims backlog:  

“We have a responsibility to take care of our veterans and the VA isn’t currently living up to this obligation. The ongoing benefits backlog is entirely unacceptable and more needs to be done to address the situation immediately. I’m hopeful that this afternoon’s discussion leads to swift action because our veterans deserve better.”
