Shaheen Statement on NH House Voter Suppression Bill

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to the New Hampshire House of Representatives passing a bill that aims to suppress turnout among young New Hampshire voters:

“This is a very thinly veiled attempt by Republican legislators to suppress the vote in New Hampshire for political advantage,” said Shaheen. “This disgraceful bill is aimed squarely at young voters in New Hampshire to discourage participation. Again, I call on Republican lawmakers to appeal to the concerns and interests of young voters, rather than blocking access to the ballot box. In New Hampshire, we’ve taken great pride in our political and civic participation, but this legislation would be a black stain on our reputation. We should be doing everything in our power to make young people welcome in New Hampshire—this bill does the exact opposite. The New Hampshire Legislature and Governor Sununu should do the right thing and reject this legislation.”
