Shaheen Statement on Nomination of General Mark Milley to Serve as Next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement that he’ll nominate Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley to serve as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, succeeding General Joseph Dunford.
“General Milley has had an outstanding military career and is well respected by U.S. and world leaders, which makes him well suited to be nominated for this esteemed position,” said Shaheen. “I’ve had the opportunity to speak with General Milley a number of times, in my capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and on issues related to New Hampshire’s role in our national defense, and I’ve always appreciated his commitment to delivering meaningful responses. I look forward to his nomination hearing and to discussing concerns related to U.S. military readiness and how he’ll address these issues as our nation’s top military advisor.”
