SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF SENATE BUDGET RESOLUTION

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today applauding passage of the Senate budget resolution:

“We’ve taken another important and necessary step toward economic recovery by passing a budget that makes needed investments in health care and education, cuts taxes for middle class families, and puts our nation on the path toward a balanced budget.

“This Congress and this President inherited an enormous deficit and tremendous challenges, and this budget puts us on the path toward overcoming them. This budget will cut our deficit by two-thirds by 2014; it will bring down health care costs by investing in health information technology, comparative effectiveness research and more; it will invest in clean energy technology, energy efficiency, and modernization of our energy infrastructure; it will expand opportunities for students to go to college by increasing Pell grants and it will invest in early childhood education and Title I programs; and it will provide a tax break to working families.

“The challenges we face have been growing over many years, and we won’t solve them overnight. But this budget builds on the important work we have already done to help get our economy back on track, and I commend Chairman Conrad and all my colleagues for their work to improve and pass this important legislation.”
