Shaheen Statement on Passing of Derry Police Chief Ed Garone
(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement on the passing of Derry Police Chief Ed Garone:
“I offer my heartfelt condolences to Chief Garone’s family, the Derry Police Department and all those who knew and loved him. Chief Garone gave Derry five decades of service – five decades of mentoring young officers, providing steadfast leadership to the Derry PD and giving comfort to community members who knew they could rely and trust him with their families’ safety. I was honored to celebrate his fifty years of service beside him, his colleagues and loved ones earlier this year and will treasure that memory as we look back at a career and life well-lived. Chief Garone adhered to the core belief of “service above self” and he embodied that motto throughout his life, first in the U.S. Marine Corps and later at the Lebanon Police Department before finding his home and building a legacy with the Derry PD,” said Shaheen. “He left an indelible mark on the Derry community and he will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with his wife Blanche, children Vicky and Michael, and all those mourning.”
In June, Shaheen entered a statement into the Congressional Record honoring Chief Garone for his fifty years of service, which can be read in full here.
