Shaheen Statement on Passing of Longtime Advisor Judy Reardon
(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement on the passing of Judy Reardon, who served as Shaheen’s legal counsel during her tenure as Governor of New Hampshire and later as Shaheen’s Counsel, Legislative Director and Senior Advisor when she was elected to the U.S. Senate:
“Few people have had an impact on my life, personally and professionally, as much as Judy Reardon. From the New Hampshire State Senate, to the Governor’s office and to the U.S. Senate, Judy filled numerous roles on my staff: Counsel, Legislative Director and Senior Advisor. But she was much more than that to me – she was my confidante and she was my dear friend. Judy was by my side when we expanded kindergarten for New Hampshire children; she helped me defend women’s reproductive rights in New Hampshire; she was with me when we fervently defended the Affordable Care Act for years in the U.S. Senate, and she was with me through every tough re-election. Judy devoted her life to public service – specifically, to bettering the lives of Granite Staters. And over the years, she mentored countless members of my staff and young activists who wanted to learn from her and work beside her. Judy had a fiery, relentless spirit that drove her in her career and she was fiercely loyal to the people she loved,” said Shaheen. “Like all those who are missing her right now, I am brokenhearted by her passing, but I’m grateful that she chose my office, my staff and our shared causes to devote her time and attention. I will treasure those memories and see her spirit and work carried on in the men and women she mentored. My thoughts are with her sister, Patty, and brother-in-law, Rik, during this difficult time.”
