Shaheen Statement on Pope Francis Visit to the United States

(Washington, DC) –U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today welcomed His Holiness Pope Francis to the United States with the following statement:

“His Holiness Pope Francis’s historic visit brings joy to the hearts of Catholics in New Hampshire and across the country,” said Shaheen. “His message of hope and mercy, and his personal example of humility and grace are an inspiration to Americans of all faiths. I extend a warm welcome to His Holiness on his first visit to the United States. He has won the admiration of the American people, and we are honored to have him as our guest.”

Senator Shaheen attended the welcome ceremony for Pope Francis at the White House this morning and will attend a Canonization Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception this afternoon. Tomorrow morning, Pope Francis will address a joint session of Congress, which Senator Shaheen will attend.
