Shaheen Statement on President Trump’s Federal Budget Outline

(Washington, DC)— U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after the Trump administration announced a federal budget outline that increases defense spending through sharp reductions to domestic programs:

“Supporting the readiness of our military is critical, but this priority shouldn’t come at the expense of domestic programs that are also important to the health and wellbeing of all Americans,” said Shaheen. “The budget targets released by President Trump today are unworkable and should be rejected by Congress. These cuts to domestic programs would result in real repercussions for everyday Americans. We need a budget that is both fiscally responsible and invests in key priorities that help build a prosperous middle class. President Trump’s budget fails on both accounts.”
