Shaheen Statement on Removal of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to the announcement that President Trump will nominate Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Mike Pompeo to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State:

“While I often disagreed with Secretary Tillerson, I thank him for his service and wish him well in his next endeavor,” said Shaheen. “It’s disappointing that his departure from the administration comes soon after his condemnation of Russia’s barbaric attack on two individuals in the United Kingdom. I look forward to meeting with Director Pompeo to discuss how he’ll prioritize and bolster American diplomacy to help alleviate numerous national security and diplomatic challenges around the globe.”
