SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON SENATE CONFIRMATION OF TREASURY SECRETARY TIMOTHY GEITHNER

 (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary:

“President Obama selected Timothy Geithner to lead the Treasury Department, and I trust that the President selected the best person for the job. I’m confident Secretary Geithner will be able to steer America out of the financial crisis we face today.

“The use of taxpayer money should be held to the highest standards of transparency and accountability, and I am hopeful Secretary Geithner will work with Congress to improve oversight and ensure strict regulation of all taxpayer funds spent to stabilize the economy.”
