SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON SENATE VOTE TO ADVANCE MILITARY COLA FIX

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after the Senate voted 94-0 to advance legislation to undo the cost of living adjustment (COLA) reduction for military retirees included in last year’s bipartisan budget agreement:

“Tonight’s bipartisan vote is an important step forward as we work to restore cost of living adjustments for military retirees who have bravely fought to protect our country. While I would prefer a plan that finds savings elsewhere, like the one I introduced in December, I will support this measure which accomplishes our ultimate goal and urge all of my colleagues to do the same.”

Shaheen also plans to file an amendment to the bill currently being debated as early as tomorrow that would replace the COLA reductions with savings similar to those identified in her bill introduced in December.
