Shaheen Statement on Signing of 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Reauthorization Bill Into Law
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement after President Trump signed legislation to extend authorization of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund through 2090 into law. The bill passed both chambers of Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support. Shaheen is an original cosponsor of the Senate companion legislation.
“This day has been a long time coming for survivors of the 9/11 terror attacks, our courageous first responders and the brave men and women who risked their health and well-being to rebuild downtown Manhattan, helping to heal a mourning nation,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m very relieved that the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund has been permanently reauthorized, ensuring that these heroes will never again have to face the uncertainty of whether they’ll have access to the medical services they need and deserve as a result of their service. This is a victory for the countless advocates who fought for the passage of this bill. My heart goes out to those we’ve lost along the way, who never gave up on this fight – we will never forget your service and sacrifice.”
