Shaheen Statement on the NATO Summit in Warsaw

**Shaheen is the lead Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee**

(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), lead Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released this statement following the conclusion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit in Warsaw, Poland:

“I congratulate NATO on a successful summit,” said Senator Shaheen. “The serious commitments made in Warsaw, including to continue modernizing forces and capabilities, will bolster NATO’s ability to confront Russian aggression and global terrorism. NATO’s announcement of new rotational troop deployments to Poland and the Baltic states will protect our Eastern European allies from Russian aggression, and its support for our missions in Iraq and Afghanistan will enhance counter-terror efforts. Finally, welcoming Montenegro as the Alliance’s 29th member and committing additional assistance to Ukraine send an important signal to Moscow that sovereign countries are free to select the foreign policies of their choosing. The NATO alliance is indispensable to transatlantic security.”
