Shaheen Statement on the Obama Administration’s Response to Russia’s Election Hacking
(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, released the following statement on the Obama Administration’s announcement of its response to Russia’s interference in the U.S. elections:
“I strongly support the steps the Administration announced today to respond to Russia’s outrageous interference in our November elections,” Shaheen said. “The new Congress must come together in bipartisan fashion to investigate what happened and determine what additional legislative steps should be taken in response. The next Administration should welcome and support all efforts to combat foreign interference in our elections and hold accountable those responsible.”
Shaheen has been a leader in Congress calling for Russian accountability for interference in the election. Shaheen first called for a hearing in September, nearly two months before the November election, in a letter sent to the leadership of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
