Shaheen Statement on the President’s Nominee to the Supreme Court
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after President Obama nominated Chief Judge Merrick B. Garland of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court:
“Today, the President fulfilled his constitutional responsibility. Now it’s the Senate’s turn. Every Senator swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution and that oath applies to election years and nonelection years alike. Without question, the American people expect us to do our jobs. The Senate has a longstanding bipartisan tradition of giving fair consideration to Supreme Court nominees and I will continue to honor that tradition. I look forward to meeting Judge Garland in the near future, and reviewing his qualifications.”
