Shaheen Statement on the Retirement of Department of Safety Commissioner John Barthelmes
(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen issued the following statement after Department of Safety Commissioner John Barthelmes delivered a notice of retirement. Barthelmes served as State Police Colonel when Shaheen served as governor of New Hampshire.
“Commissioner Barthelmes has been a steady hand at the Department of Safety, and I applaud his outstanding career in public service, which began as a New Hampshire State Police Officer,” said Shaheen. “He rose through the ranks to eventually become colonel and I will always be grateful for his steadfast leadership, particularly during the tragic events at Colebrook when four individuals were killed, including two brave New Hampshire State Troopers. I’ve always greatly appreciated his advice and counsel, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
