Shaheen Statement on Trump Administration’s Latest Attack on Women’s Reproductive Health
**Shaheen Responds to Trump Administration’s Final Decision on Rule That Bars Women’s Health Care Providers Who Advise Patients on Abortion Services from Receiving Federal Funding**
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s final determination to impose a domestic gag rule that will prohibit women’s health care providers that advise patients on abortion services from receiving federal funding. This rule will impact access to reproductive health care services for women who utilize providers such as Planned Parenthood for comprehensive health care.
“The Trump administration’s relentless efforts to roll back women’s reproductive – and constitutionally-protected – rights must stop,” said Shaheen. “These incessant attacks by the President and his administration to cut off access to comprehensive reproductive health care services are alarming, and are putting the health and safety of millions of women around the country at risk. Providers like Planned Parenthood play a pivotal role in delivering necessary, quality care to women and families – any action by the administration that threatens to impede those efforts will not go unanswered.”
In May, Shaheen sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Alex Azar, opposing this specific rule that will change the Title X family planning program to restrict access to affordable, accessible reproductive health care.
Senator Shaheen is a dedicated advocate for women’s reproductive rights. Senator Shaheen has been fighting for years to increase coverage of women’s preventative care in the annual defense authorization bill, and has repeatedly fought to repeal the Global Gag Rule, which bans critical federal aid for non-governmental groups that provide the full scope of family planning and maternal health services abroad.
