Shaheen Statement on Trump’s Suspension of Pay Raises for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard Base Employees
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after President Trump announced he would block pay raises for federal employees, including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard base employees, that were expected to go into effect next year:
“President Trump’s new pay freeze is a significant financial blow to civilian workers at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Pease Air National Guard base,” said Shaheen. “It’s disingenuous for the Trump administration to justify this policy because of ballooning deficits which are largely the result of recent Republican tax cuts for the wealthy – asking Shipyard and Pease employees to pay for these tax cuts is disgraceful. I urge the President to reverse this decision immediately.”
