Shaheen Statement on UN Ambassador Nikki Haley’s Resignation
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in response to United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley’s announcement that she will resign at the end of the year:
“I thank Ambassador Haley for her service and wish her well in her future endeavors,” said Senator Shaheen. “As President Trump considers his next nominee for this position, it’s imperative that he names someone who is experienced and understands the significance of the United Nations as an institution, as well as its mission to promote and maintain peace and security around the world. This position is significant to the United States’ role as a global leader. The next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations must rise to the occasion and re-engage the global community in a positive and productive manner while always putting U.S. interests ahead of what is politically expedient. I look forward to meeting with the future nominee and discussing how he or she will prioritize measures that strengthen the United States’ role in support of the United Nations.”
