SHAHEEN TO SPEND INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH U.S. TROOPS SERVING IN THE MIDDLE EAST

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen will spend the Fourth of July visiting American troops currently serving in the Middle East to express her gratitude for their service and sacrifice.  She will also meet with high-ranking foreign leaders, American military commanders, and civilian personnel to assess U.S. policies in the region. With the planned redeployment in Iraq and the ongoing threat of terrorism and destabilization, this is a critical time in this vital region for U.S. security interests.

Today in Riyadh, Shaheen met with U.S Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James B. Smith, who is a New Hampshire native.

Shaheen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will travel throughout the Middle East region during this Congressional recess. She is joined on the trip by Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Ted Kaufman (D-DE).
