Shaheen to Vote No on Dr. Ben Carson’s Nomination to Serve as HUD Secretary

(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement ahead of the vote later today to confirm Dr. Ben Carson as secretary of Housing and Urban Development:

“While I respect Dr. Carson’s willingness to serve, I do not have confidence that he has the necessary experience or expertise to serve as HUD secretary,” said Shaheen. “The department needs a leader who on day one can take the reins and manage programs that protect fair housing policies, provide low-income families with affordable housing, and promote the development of transitional housing for those in recovery from substance misuse.”
