SHAHEEN TOUTS ECONOMIC BENEFIT OF LONG-TERM HIGHWAY LAW DURING TOUR OF PIKE INDUSTRIES

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) highlighted the economic benefits of the recently passed long-term transportation law during a tour of Pike Industries in West Lebanon today. Shaheen toured the facilities and spoke about how the long-term funding will give companies like Pike the certainty needed to invest and plan for the future.

Pike Industries specializes in environmentally responsible construction services and employs 400 workers in New Hampshire.

“Pike Industries is a great example of a New Hampshire company that creates jobs and strengthens the Granite State economy,” said Shaheen.  “The workers here know that construction firms, like any company, need long-term planning in order to grow, hire new workers and take on new projects. I am glad that Congress could come together on a bipartisan long-term transportation deal that will give businesses like Pike across the country the certainty they need to grow.”

“Senator Shaheen continues to be a tireless advocate for our nation’s highway infrastructure,” said Larry Major, Government Affairs Manager at Pike Industries. “She understands that investments in our highways not only benefit our state’s economy and the safety of the driving public, but also support thousands of New Hampshire citizens and their families, including laborers, equipment operators, truck drivers, manufacturers, small business owners and countless others”

The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (S.1813) increases transportation funding for New Hampshire, reforms the nation's transportation programs to make them more efficient and provides assistance for transportation projects to leverage state, local and private-sector funding.

The long-term extension will increase New Hampshire’s transit funding by $3 million per year and highway funding by $10 million per year over current levels and will give state officials the security needed to move forward with important transportation projects.
