SHAHEEN: US-GERMAN RELATIONSHIP ESSENTIAL TO FIGHTING TERRORISM, CLIMATE CHANGE
(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, released the following statement today following Chancellor Angela Merkel’s historic speech before a joint session of Congress:
"Chancellor Merkel's speech, nearly 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, underscores the need to continue to strengthen the unique relationship that our nations share, and the importance of working together to solve the world's most pressing problems. Germany and the United States must work side-by-side to stop the spread of nuclear weapons, stamp out terrorism around the world, rebuild the global economy to prevent future crises, and reverse the effects of climate change. In my role as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in Germany to advance our relationship and to work toward our shared goals."
