Shaheen Votes ‘No’ on Rick Perry’s Confirmation as Energy Secretary
(Washington, DC) — U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after voting ‘no’ on the confirmation of Gov. Rick Perry, President Trump’s nominee to serve as Secretary of Energy.
“The United States is a global leader on energy efficiency, employing nearly 2 million Americans in the clean energy sector and driving policies to protect our climate. I cannot in good conscience support the confirmation of Gov. Perry to an Administration that has put a bullseye on the Energy Department’s critical work on climate research, and the development of energy efficiency and clean energy technologies that create jobs and boost our economy. We need an Energy Secretary who is committed to advancing technologies that will ensure our businesses and manufactures remain globally competitive and on the cutting edge. Unfortunately, it’s clear the Trump Administration doesn’t share this view.”
