Shaheen Votes ‘No’ on Seema Verma’s Nomination to Serve as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(Washington, DC) — Following up on her remarks from last week, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement after voting ‘no’ on the confirmation of Seema Verma, President Trump’s nominee to serve as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services:
“I cannot support the confirmation of a CMS Administrator who supports drastic cuts that would threaten healthcare coverage for children, seniors, people with disabilities, and patients receiving treatment for substance use disorders. I also have deep concerns about Ms. Verma’s commitment to protecting women’s health care, as she believes that prenatal care and maternity coverage should be strictly optional. This position harkens back to when being a woman was a pre-existing condition and insurance companies could charge women more for health insurance.”
