Shaheen Welcomes Governor Sununu's Letter to President Trump Calling for Healthcare Marketplace Stability, Including Assurance of Cost-Sharing Reduction Payments
**Senator Shaheen has introduced legislation in the Senate to provide marketplace stability by permanently providing cost-sharing reduction payments**
(Washington, DC)—U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement after Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) sent a letter to the Trump administration calling on his administration to take immediate action to stabilize the healthcare marketplace. Among his recommendations to the President, Governor Sununu calls for the continuation of cost-sharing reduction payments which help Americans afford insurance coverage. Senator Shaheen is leading efforts in the Senate to provide marketplace stability by continuing cost-sharing reduction payments. Her Marketplace Certainty Act would make this funding permanent and available to more working Americans.
“The Trump administration can act immediately to provide healthcare marketplace stability, and I welcome Governor Sununu’s letter to President Trump calling on him to do so,” said Shaheen. “By refusing to implement key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, the Trump administration has caused unnecessary chaos in New Hampshire’s healthcare marketplace. As Governor Sununu’s letter points out, this uncertainty has caused insurers to raise premiums and even leave ACA marketplaces altogether. I’m very encouraged that there’s growing bipartisan support for measures to stabilize healthcare marketplaces in this country. In the Senate, I’ll continue to urge action on my legislation that would stabilize healthcare marketplaces and provide more support for Americans to afford healthcare coverage. Healthcare is a life and death issue and it's time for the President to do the will of the American people.”
