In Portsmouth, Shaheen to be honored by The New England Educational Opportunity Association

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) will host a roundtable to discuss efforts to address New Hampshire’s growing heroin and prescription drug abuse epidemic at the Laconia Police Department at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 31.  Shaheen will be joined by law enforcement officials and treatment providers to discuss ways local, state and federal resources can best be used to address heroin and prescription drug abuse.

In the afternoon, Shaheen will visit Pinkerton Academy in Derry at 1:00 p.m. to discuss efforts to promote education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects. Shaheen will observe two Project Lead the Way classrooms and highlight her legislation to expand STEM education. Project Lead the Way provides STEM-related programs, materials and courses for K-12 classrooms.

Later, Shaheen will be honored by the New England Educational Opportunity Association with the 2015 Shirley Chisholm Award at 3:30 p.m. in Portsmouth. The Shirley Chisholm Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and active support for clients served by TRIO programs. TRIO supports and serves low-income individuals, individuals with disabilities and first-generation college students as they pursue post-secondary education.
