Shaheen and Hassan Honor Fallen Law Enforcement Officers at Annual Memorial in Concord at Close of Police Week
(Concord, NH) – Today, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) attended the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Association’s 32nd Annual New Hampshire Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony in Concord to pay tribute to fallen officers. Each year, the ceremony honors courageous law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our communities. Photos from today’s event can be found here.
“As we mark the end of National Police Week, I was honored to attend the 32nd Annual New Hampshire Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony to pay tribute to our brave and dedicated law enforcement officers and recognize those who have lost their lives in the line of duty,” said Senator Shaheen. “I thank them for their service and encourage Granite Staters to find ways to show appreciation for our law enforcement community who work tirelessly to keep families safe. I will always work to ensure they have the resources necessary to continue serving our state.”
“Today we had the opportunity to honor New Hampshire’s fallen law enforcement officers for their heroism and for making the ultimate sacrifice,” said Senator Hassan. “I am deeply grateful for law enforcement officers’ work to keep our communities safe, and I am proud to stand with law enforcement in supporting their efforts.”
Through her role as Chair of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, Shaheen regularly secures funding for projects that support New Hampshire’s law enforcement agencies and improve police-community relations. In this year’s government funding legislation, Shaheen secured $23,212,000 in FY2024 Congressionally Directed Spending to build safe and prosperous communities and other priorities.
In the FY2024 legislation, Shaheen also helped allocate $256 million to the COPS Hiring Program, which will place over 2,000 more police officers on the streets. Funding was also included for programs that support officer mental health and wellness, the purchase of body-worn cameras, bulletproof vests and rural law enforcement needs. Additionally, Shaheen helped secure $924 million for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grants, which is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. Recently, Shaheen visited the Dover Police Department to learn more about its innovative Social Work Unit that was funded using $109,000 in COPS funding that Shaheen secured in 2021.
