Shaheen Delivers Remarks at Veterans Day Ceremony in Dover
(Dover, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, delivered remarks today at the Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Park in Dover. Shaheen joined U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Mayor Bob Carrier and members of the American Legion Post 8 to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans. Photos from the event can be found here.
“On Veterans Day, we honor the brave Americans in our communities who put their lives on the line so that we may continue to live free,” said Senator Shaheen. “From the birth of our nation through today, courageous servicemembers have answered the call to fight for the freedom and security of our country and its people. While we can never fully repay the debt owed to those who serve, we have a responsibility to ensure that our veterans have the benefits and care they need, and I’ll continue working in Congress to expand and protect those resources.”
Senator Shaheen has spearheaded efforts in the Senate to support veterans and military families. In the committee-passed (FY) 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Shaheen secured Granite State priorities including expanding access to child care for military families, expanded efforts to research the health impacts of harmful forever chemicals and a 4.5 percent pay raise for service members and civilians to ensure military families receive the pay and benefits they deserve. Each year, Shaheen leads the bipartisan Senate resolution with Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) to recognize an annual National Warrior Call Day, which encourages Americans to reach out and build meaningful relationships with both those currently serving and veterans and will take place on November 17, 2024. In 2022, Shaheen worked to include provisions and helped pass the historic PACT Act, which expanded health care for veterans who were exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.
