Shaheen Leads New Hampshire Delegation in Welcoming $15 Million in DOT Funding for EV Chargers

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH), alongside U.S. Representatives Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Maggie Goodlander (NH-02), welcomed $15 million in Department of Transportation (DOT) grant funding to install 199 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports and enhance public EV charging infrastructure across the Granite State. The grant was awarded to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) through the Federal Highway Administration’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 - 2025 Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant program. This program was created and funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Shaheen and Hassan helped negotiate.

“Building out electric vehicle charging hubs across New Hampshire, particularly in the state’s rural communities, will make electric vehicles an option for more Granite Staters, bolster New Hampshire’s economy and advance progress toward our clean energy goals,” said Senator Shaheen. “I’m proud to have advocated for this funding and I’m pleased to see the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continue delivering for Granite State communities.”

“Federal funding to help expand New Hampshire’s electric vehicle charging network is one of the many ways that the bipartisan infrastructure law continues to deliver for the Granite State,” said Senator Hassan. “I worked with my colleagues to negotiate and pass the bipartisan infrastructure law to enable investments like these, which help build New Hampshire’s economy and clean energy future.”

“Smart investments in our clean energy infrastructure are critical to ensuring we continue to lower costs for New Hampshire families while building a more sustainable energy future,” said Congressman Pappas. “This federal funding will strengthen electric vehicle charging infrastructure across New Hampshire to improve access for Granite Staters and visitors alike, boosting our tourism industry and local economy. I’ll continue working to lower the cost of energy, strengthen our clean energy infrastructure, and protect the health of our communities and environment.”

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has been a game-changer for New Hampshire, delivering essential financial resources to strengthen our state’s infrastructure and improve the lives of hardworking Granite Staters,” said Representative Goodlander. “I’m thrilled to see funding for critical, community-based EV infrastructure heading to our state to increase access to clean transportation alternatives, to give Granite Staters more travel options, and to create new opportunities for tourism in our rural communities.”

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Shaheen and Hassan negotiated and Pappas supported, includes significant investment in EV infrastructure. Through the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant program, the law is providing $2.5 billion to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and other alternative fueling infrastructure projects in urban and rural communities around the country. Additionally, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law awarded the New Hampshire DOT $17.2 million over 5 years to develop New Hampshire’s EV charging network through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program.

Shaheen, Hassan and Pappas also supported the Inflation Reduction Act, which provides further support for EV adoption. In August, Shaheen celebrated nearly $33 million in Electric School Bus funding provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for New Hampshire school buses.
