Shaheen Visits C&J, Discusses Harmful Impact of Trump Administration’s Tariffs on Canada
(Portsmouth, NH) – Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) visited C&J in Portsmouth to discuss the harmful impact of President Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Canada—New Hampshire’s largest trading partner. C&J runs a bus line along the seacoast and relies on Canada to source new buses for its fleet. Trump’s tariffs are already making it more costly for the company to buy new vehicles and parts for their existing buses. Photos from today’s event can be found here.
“While visiting C&J in Portsmouth today, I learned how much more expensive it’s going to be for the company to buy new buses and parts for their existing fleet thanks to Trump’s tariffs on Canada,” said Senator Shaheen. “Businesses need to be able to plan in advance to grow and support good-paying jobs in our communities, but Trump’s tariffs on Canada make it impossible for companies like C&J to do so.”
Shaheen’s visit continued her tour of Granite State businesses impacted by Trump’s tariffs, including a visit to a Northwood agricultural equipment manufacturer and Mount Cabot Maple in Lancaster. Shaheen also invited Rebecca Hamilton, the co-owner and co-CEO of Badger in Gilsum as her guest for President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress to highlight the impact of the Administrations tariffs. Recently, Shaheen attempted to pass in the Senate her Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes on Imported Goods Act to limit the President’s ability to levy sweeping tariffs that increase costs for American consumers and families.
